Hacker Hits Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook Fan Page

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook fan page was apparently hacked and defaced in another embarrassing security event for the leading social network.

Facebook took down the page, but not before screen shots were captured and distributed on the web through multiple forums, including this one from TechCrunch:

The unknown assailant posted the following message:

Let the hacking begin: If facebook needs money, instead of going to the banks, why doesn’t Facebook let its users invest in Facebook in a social way? Why not transform Facebook into a ‘social business’ the way Nobel Price winner Muhammad Yunus described it? http://bit.ly/fs6rT3 What do you think? #hackercup2011

The message looks to be a knock on Facebook's business practices, and encourages the company to pursue "social business" model that puts social and humanitarian achievements before profits.

TechCrunch made efforts to contact Facebook's management for comment, but has yet to receive any statements.

Facebook has received more than a little criticism for lax security protocols, spam, scams, and privacy violations by application developers.

Zuckerberg regularly defends the social networks security and privacy efforts, so it will be interesting to hear the official company reaction to a breach of security on the fearless leader's own fan page.
